No. 6 Demon Deacons men’s tennis team defeats Virginia and Davidson

Wake Forest men’s tennis picked up wins on Sunday afternoon over Virginia and Davidson at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons improve to 7-1 on the season.

Wake started the day with a dominant 5-2 victory over Virginia in a non-conference matchup. They then wrapped the doubeheader with a convincing 7-0 sweep over Davidson.

Wake Forest will travel to Madison, Wis., to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championship Feb. 14-17.

App State softball splits doubleheader on Sunday

The App State softball team went 1-1 in the final day of the Charlotte Invitational. The Mountaineers lost to Virginia in the first game, 9-7, but ended the day with a 4-1 win over Charlotte.

The Mountaineers held the lead through five innings against Virginia, but were unable to hold onto it as the Cavaliers used a five-run six inning to take the win.

App State bounced back in the second game with another solid performance on the mound from Sydney Holland. Holland threw a complete game, allowing only three hits and one run. She struck out eight in her second win of the season.

App State men’s tennis falls to Tennessee Tech

App State men’s tennis lost to Tennessee Tech 6-1 on Sunday morning in the home opener at the Deer Valley Racquet Club. The Mountaineers fall to 1-4 while TTU improves to 1-3 on the year.

TTU captured the doubles point and five of six singles matches to claim the win.

After the visitors took a 1-0 lead, Aleksandar Petrovic earned his first spring victory for the Black and Gold at the top spot when he defeated Rafael Tosetto in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

The Mountaineers aim to snap a four-match skid on Sunday against ETSU at 11 a.m. in Johnson City.
