Noah Soles went from prospect to draft pick on Wednesday.
The former centerfielder with the Ledford baseball team was selected in the 19th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Soles, a senior, was the 572nd overall pick and 36th player chosen with ties to North Carolina.
Soles, who is committed to N.C. State, finished his senior season with the Panthers with a .471 batting average and 19 RBIs. He had two home runs, three triples and seven doubles. Ledford ended the season at 24-3 with a Central Carolina 2-A championship victory and third-round appearance in the Class 2-A playoffs.
Over the course of the season, Soles scored 32 runs. He is the first area high school player chosen in this year's draft.
As a junior in June 2018, he played in the outfield during the Class 2-A championship against Whiteville at Five County Stadium in Zebulon. The Panthers finished that season at 29-5, ending as the runners-up for the state title — the team's first appearance at a best-of-3 championship series in any classification.
