ZEBULON — Wes Rogers scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Carolina Mudcats topped the Winston-Salem Dash 1-0 on Thursday evening at Five County Stadium.
The game included a total of 16 strikeouts.
Rogers scored on a single by Eddie Silva, his 26th RBI of the season.
The Mudcats started Aaron Ashby, and he responded with by pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts, including three in the top of the first. Rodrigo Benoit (6-0) picked up the win, pitching the final inning. His ERA fell to 1.52.
Kade McClure started the game for Winston-Salem. He pitched six innings and struck out four Mudcats. Zach Lewis and Vince Arobio came on in relief and both recorded a strikeout. Jose Nin (2-2) took the loss, his ERA climbing to 5.48
The Dash struggled with the bats. Yeyson Yrizarri's third-inning double was his 10th of the season. Zach Remillard had the only other Dash hit.
The Dash (36-25) return to Five County Stadium tonight at 7 p.m. to face the Mudcats. It will be the second of a four-game series. Thursday's loss ended the Dash's seven-game win streak, and they are in second place behind Delaware in the Carolina League's Southern Division, nine games back.
