The Carolina Thunderbirds broke open a close game with three goals in the third period of a 4-1 win over the Mentor Ice Breakers.

The Thunderbirds had a 24-game win streak snapped on Sunday but picked up a victory in their next game.

The game was tied at 1 before Jan Salek scored three minutes into the third pe-riod. Jiri Pestuka and Petr Panacek also scored for the first-place Thunderbirds.

Joe Cangelosi scored the Thunderbirds first goal and Cangelosi also add two assists. Chase Fallis was credited with three assists for the Thunderbirds.

Goalie Henry Dill made 18 saves for the Thunderbirds.

The two teams will play again tonight at 7:30.
