Racing at Bowman Gray on Saturday night was once again postponed because of rain.

In the first four scheduled weeks, three weeks have been rained out. Saturday’s scheduled 100-lap Modified race and the 50-lap Street Stock race were moved to June 1.

”On average, we average about 21/2 rainouts a year,” said Loren Pinilis, the media-relations director at Bowman Gray. “So for us to have three at this point is really not totally disheartening. We may be in for a good rest of the season. And we hope that the weather will cooperate more for the remainder of 2019.”

The Crash Fest, which includes a demolition derby, chain race and skid race, is scheduled for next week. Also next week, there will be twin 25-lap Modified races, twin 20-lap Sportsman races, twin 15-lap Stadium Stock races and a 20-lap Street Stock race.

On May 25, the featured race will be a 100-lap Sportsman, plus there will be racing in the Modified, Street Stock and Stadium Stock.

“We previously had the Great Clips Crash Fest scheduled for next week, and for that and for our Night of Destruction we really set those dates in stone and pretty much work around those with the rest of our schedule,” Pinilis said.

“And as far as determining June 1, there are a lot of factors that go into it − everything from the divisions to point standings, to what we can actually fit into a night, to qualifying, there’s technical considerations, there’s sponsor considerations.

“There’s even considerations in terms of our hospitality, what sponsors we have in the suites and what displays we have on the concourse.

“So there’s lots and lots of balls to juggle, lots of things that need to be rescheduled and we just try to do the best we can.”

The points leaders after one week are Brian Loftin (Modified), Derek Stoltz (Sportsman), Gerald Robinson Jr. (Street Stock) and Grayson Keaton (Stadium Stock).
