Bookmarks independent bookstore and public gathering place will present events this week at 634 W. Fourth St. Admission is free.

6 p.m. Feb. 13: Teen Advisory Council. Students 14 and up discuss favorite YA (young adult) reads, meet authors and help plan YA author events.

10:30 a.m. Feb. 16: Storytime in honor of Black History Month. Young readers up to age 7, will hear stories commemorating Black History Month. Topics include historical figures such as authors and activists.

4 p.m. Feb. 17: LGBTQ Book Club. “A Single Man,” by Christopher Isherwood, is set in 1960s California. The novel narrates one day in the life of George, a college professor who is struggling with grief after suddenly losing his partner. The Guardian describes Isherwood’s writing as “some of the finest English prose of the 20th century,” with a spot on their 100 Best Novels list.
