May 16, 2019 James Reid Pulley, Sr., age 91, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully at Vienna Village Assisted Living on Thursday, May 16, 2019. He is survived by his faithful & loving wife of almost 68 years, Mary Louise McDonald Pulley. Reid and Louise have four children: Jim (Brenda), Steve (Donna), David (Nelly), and Linda. Together they have nine grandchildren: Ben (Suzanne), James Reid III, Lauren, Sam, Allison, Taylor (Savannah), Sarah, Graham (Monica), and Amy (Micah), along with one great grandchild, Logan. Reid is preceded in death by all eleven siblings from his Ivor, Va. upbringing, but has a loving network of extended Pulley family relatives. Reid was a studious young man and graduated from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., before working briefly in naval submarine engineering. He then went to work for Union Bag and Paper Co. of Savannah, Ga. where he met and married, Louise, the boss' secretary. He was outstanding in sales and sales management for Union Camp's Container Division until retirement, then able to enjoy fully his avid love of golf and dedicated community service. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 12 noon, Home Moravian Church, 529 S. Church St. in Winston-Salem, with a reception to follow. In honor of Reid, donations can be made to the Pulley Family Public Service Fellowship Endowment at the College of William & Mary, or to Home Moravian Church.
