MOORE WINSTON-SALEM Katherine Roddick Moore Sept. 14, 1925 - March 5, 2014 Katherine Roddick Moore, "Mitzi" went to be with her Lord on March 5, 2014. She was born on September 14, 1925 in Winston-Salem to the late James A. Roddick, Sr. and Katherine S. Roddick. Following graduation from RJ Reynolds High School, she attended Meredith College Raleigh where she received her BA degree in Religious Education. Her first position after graduation was at First Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC where she met Tom, the love of her life. After marriage and the birth of three children, Tom and Mitzi moved to Winston-Salem, where she became the first director of Christian Education at Knollwood Baptist Church. After many loving and active years at Knollwood her path led her to First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where she became Director of Children's Education. While there, she founded the First Baptist Day Care Center which still serves the Winston-Salem Community. She was an active member of the church where she was elected the first woman deacon. She was also a circle leader in the WMU, an active member of her Sunday School Class, Sunday School Director, Outreach Director and absolutely loved singing in the choir. She became active in the NC Baptist Convention and led Children's Sunday School workshops in several states. She became part of a group that founded Friends Baptist Church, Clemmons. Her love of children led her to become a member of the Friends of the Baptist Children's Home of Thomasville. She also founded a second children's day care center at Northwest Baptist Church. She was a faithful volunteer at Forsyth Memorial Hospital for 25 years She had many interest and hobbies. She was a member of the Altrusa Club and was President of the Shamrock Garden Club. She loved to read, play bridge and cook for her family. She loved to travel and her favorite place to visit was the beach. She was an avid UNC sports fan. Survivors include Tom, her loving husband of 64 years, her children; Susan Moore, Janice Carroll, and Tom Moore, Jr. ; Grandchildren, Beth Southern (Bill), Will Carroll, Michael Baccich, Jason Moore and Meredith Moore; Great Grandchildren Kate Southern and Flynn Southern; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. The family will have a private burial service on Monday. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Queen, Dr. Randall Lolley and Dr. Michael Blackwell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. The family would like to thank Brookridge staff for their love, care and support shown to Mitzi and the rest of the family.
