November 28, 1934 - June 9, 2019 Jesus said, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved." (John 10:9, NIV). Ferrell McKinney Luper of Pfafftown passed through the gate Sunday, June 9, 2019, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and special caretaker Briana. For those of us who are the sheep of the Great Shepherd, when we die, we do not pass away, but "pass through" Christ, who is the Way, the Door, the Gate, into life eternal. Born November 28, 1934, Ferrell was the son of the late Elcer Ray and Maggie Mae McKinney Luper. He graduated from Lewisville High School and from the Apprentice School of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Mr. Luper retired from RJR Archer, and was a dedicated member of Elm Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carroll Jean Beroth. Mr. Luper is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Lee Binkley Luper, of the home; daughters, Sharon Lee Luper Collett of Winston-Salem and Lavonda Kay Luper Glass of Pfafftown; grandchildren, Wesley Ferrell Collett, Anna Lee Collett, Robert Ray Collett, Leah Joyce Glass, and Thomas William Glass IV; great-granddaughters, Nyah Lee Collett, Ruby Grace Medlin, and Jillian Ada Collett. He is also survived by his sister, Dorotha Rae Masencup and special niece, Dawn Masencup Davis and her husband Jim; nieces Nancy Bracken and Gail Gentry, nephew Roger Beroth; and many other beloved relatives and friends. The family was blessed with many special caregivers. Granddaughter Leah Glass was her Pawpaw and Grandma's angel, who lovingly helped them for several years. We also thank Briana, Evelyn, Larena, and Barbara for their kindness and care of Pawpaw and our family. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Elm Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patrick Marion and Rev. Jeff Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow at Pfafftown Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC. Memorial donations may be made to Elm Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 164, Pfafftown, NC 27040, or to a Parkinson's research foundation of the donor's choice. Condolences may be made online at Salem Funerals & Cremations 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106
