CHAPEL HILL Sep. 4, 1962 - Nov. 30, 2018 Ed Fadel, was a kind and loving man, a sweet and selfless husband, a loving father, brother, son, brother-in-law, uncle, and loyal friend. Everyone who met Ed remembers his kind smile, quick wit, and generosity. He passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 30, 2018. Ed is survived by his wife, Anna; his three beautiful daughters, Sydney, Lindsay, and Georgia; his brothers, Rick (Liz), Bob (Cathe), and Russ (Pam); and his sister, Pam Morgan. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Maureen. Ed was born September 4, 1962, in Okinawa, Japan. His father was a US Army Officer and as a child Ed lived in seven states and two countries. His family settled in Fairfax, Virginia where Ed attended high school. He attended Duke University, graduated in 1984 as a mechanical engineer, and started his career with Westinghouse in Sumter, SC. In 1987, Ed decided to return to his entrepreneurial roots and moved back to the Research Triangle in North Carolina. There Ed co-founded CD Superstore, the nation's first CD-only retail chain. After 7 years of successful operation, CD Superstore was acquired by Borders Books and Music. In 1994, he married the love of his life, Anna Del Vecchio. His life revolved around his family, and his daughters were the light of his life. He received so much joy from each girl's unique personality. He was very proud of his daughters' accomplishments - they all excel in school and in life. Georgia and Lindsay attend college while Sydney recently graduated from Boston University. Ed enjoyed Duke basketball, the Christmas season, relaxing with his dogs, talking to his brothers and sister, and being the brunt of his daughters' (and sometimes his wife's) jokes. Ed was an intrepid entrepreneur, starting, operating, and advising numerous start-ups in the Research Triangle Park and beyond. Over the last 30 years Ed has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of fellow entrepreneurs, making an indelible mark on the world. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at noon at United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Chapel Hill. Burial immediately following at Maplewood Cemetery,1621 Duke University Rd, Durham. The family will receive visitors Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Walker's Funeral Home, 204 N. Churton Street, Hillsborough. Gifts in Ed's honor may be given to United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514; or to the Emily K Center, 904 W.
