April 14, 1937 - May 11, 2019 George Ervin, 82, known to friends as "Willie Cato," passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019, following a period of illness. Born and raised by Emma Ervin and Bell Gattison Cato, Sr. A native of Winston-Salem, George attended the local public schools and graduated from Atkins High School. George also attended several community colleges in the area. In the 1950's, he joined the US Air Force and served in Korea with an honorable discharge. After completing his time in the military, George lived in Washington, DC and then returned home to his roots. After working several jobs, he wanted to be self-employed and so was born Jaye's Lounge. From 1989 to the present this establishment has been a fixture in East Winston. If ever there was a place where "everybody knew his name," this was it. George is survived by his three sons: George, Jr. (Cynthia), Gregory and Jaye Ervin, all of Winston, two devoted daughters, Regina Latrice Fisher and Ria Fisher; two stepsons: Pastor Aldine (Sandra) Ingram, Jr. and Allen (Lisa) Ingram; three sisters: Ciesta (David) Williams, Anchorage, Alaska, Marie Miles and Georgette Fuller, Buffalo, NY; two brothers: Bobby (Susie) Cato, Clinton, MD and Preston (LaTwanda) Cato, Springdale, MD; 21 grandchildren; 25+ great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Emma and Bell Cato, Sr., two sisters: Beverly and Patricia Cato; six brothers: Thomas, Bell, Jr., James, Bernard, David Cato and Ronald Fuller. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home, with the Reverend Aldine Ingram officiating.
