June 23, 1926 - May 14, 2019 Eunilee Alpha Leath Bailey, 92, of Pfafftown, NC passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Eunilee was born to Gracie Lee Bourne Leath and Lonnie Eli Leath on June 23, 1926 at Fries Junction near the New River in Virginia. Eunilee attended New River school and worked on the family farm. When her older brother left to join the Navy during WWII she used a horse to haul trees to her father's steam powered sawmill in addition to tending her younger brothers and home schooling them. She worked at Washington Mills in Fries, VA until she married in 1947 then moved to Lewisville, NC and was employed at Hanes Knitting Co. until the birth of her first child in 1950. As mother to 3 children and bookkeeper for the family businesses, moving from Winston Salem to Chicago, IL to Dallas, TX, Eunilee stayed busy yet still made the time to cultivate a wide circle of friends as well as keeping in touch with her many relatives. She loved people and was generous in all ways to those who had the good fortune to know her. She became interested in her family's genealogy and, after 35 years of research, she wrote a book on the Leath family. She travelled often with her husband, Frank, and together they visited all 50 states, every Canadian province, most of Mexico, Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. On many trips they would search out genealogical records for both the Bailey and Leath families, making new friends everywhere they went. In later years Eunilee loved to cultivate flowers in her garden and delighted in the many woodland creatures that inhabited the forest around her home. She continued to cultivate her garden of friends and family as well, especially enjoying the birth of her most recent great grandson, Ash, in March 2019. Looking back over her life in recent years she often marveled at the many things she had seen and done commenting, "Not too bad for an old country girl." Eunilee was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie Eli Leath and Gracie Lee Bourne Leath; her husband of 69 years, Frank Tennyson Bailey, Jr.; two sisters, Monrovia Vera Leath Isom and Florence Virginia Leath Bourne; four brothers, Marshall Foley Leath, Calvin Arthur Leath, Rhudy Edd Leath, and Fred Alvin Leath. She is survived by a son and his wife, Arnold Lee Bailey and Patricia Modica Bailey; a son and his friend, Frank Darwin Bailey and Alison Hall Lewis; a daughter and her friend, Mary Janice Bailey and John Mark Huggins; grandson Justin F. Price-Bailey, his wife Natalie Renee Bovender Bailey and their son Ash Tennyson Bailey; grandson, Bryant Tristan Bailey; granddaughter, Katelyn Goldie Bailey; step grandson and wife, Michael and Leah Young and their children, Logan and Ryker; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
