Chocolate, heart-shaped doughnuts, Red Hots cinnamon hearts — you can’t do Valentine’s Day without a bit of sweetness.
A macaron and cocktail pairing is just the ticket to sate your sweet tooth.
On Feb. 14, patrons at Tate’s Craft Cocktails can partake in the pairing event, which features two cocktails each, matched with a sweet meringue-based macaron from The Humble Bee Shoppe on Brookstown Avenue.
"The first cocktail is 'Heart of Gold,' which reminded us of a spiced, baked apple, so I’m making a macron with lemon and honey that plays off those flavors,” said bakery owner Brittany McGee. “The second drink has rose water and is very romantic and aromatic, so we’ll have something tasty for that as well.”
McGee has a large repertoire of macarons, from classic favorites pistachio, raspberry and lemon curd flavors to cake batter, s’more and Fruity Pebbles macarons.
She said part of the fun is coming up with macarons that complement the drinks they're paired with.
Tickets are not needed prior to the pairing, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., McGee said.
“It’ll be fun, not just for couples, but for girls or guys to go out on the town without the lovey-dovey stuff,” she said. “I think the interactive element plus the ambiance of Tate’s will make it a great event.”
