A construction worker died Wednesday at Winston-Salem State University after suffering cardiac arrest on the fifth floor of the unfinished sciences building, authorities said.

Crews with the Winston-Salem Fire Department responded with ladder trucks for a high-angle rescue, according to a tweet from the fire department.

The construction worker's medical emergency was reported around 3:45 p.m., said Jay Davis, a WSSU spokesman.

Authorities didn't identify the construction worker as they attempted to notify his family members.

Winston-Salem firefighters, police and paramedics responded to the incident on WSSU's campus.
