November 14, 1922 - June 10, 2019 Mrs. Louella L. Williams, 96, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019. She was born November 14, 1922 in Stokes County to the late John D. Lewis and Emma Mabe Lewis. Louella was known as a loving, hardworking mother that will be missed by all. She was a member of Clear Springs Primitive Baptist Church since her baptism in 1938. In addition to her parents, Louella is preceded in death by her loving husband, Simon Williams; three sons: Oneil Williams, Kenneth Williams, and Roger Van Williams; daughter, Linda Williams; son-in-law, Glenn Woodrow Duncan; grandson, Charles Duncan; two brothers, John Lewis and Charles Lewis; and three sisters: Emma Jean Owens, Barbara Evans, and Nannie Ola Nelson. She is survived by three daughters: Era Mabe (Lloyd), Kathy Duncan, and Jewel Mabe (Keith); daughter-in-law, Wanda Williams; ten grandchildren: Lisa Lineberry, Seth Mabe, Kelly Mabe, Karen Southern, Travis Duncan, Ira Mabe, Lucinda Smith, Christopher Williams, Wendy Williams, and Timothy Williams; six great-grandchildren: Heather Herman, Torri Blankenship, Brett Mabe, Lauren Oakley, Wesley Lineberry, and Jesse Glenn Duncan; six great-great-grandchildren; and brother, William Lewis. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday at Clear Springs Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dan Abbott and Elder John Priddy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Matthews, Donald Monroe
November 10, 1943 - June 7, 2019 Donald Monroe Matthews, 75, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019 after a three-year battle with leukemia. He was born in Carroll County, VA on November 10, 1943 to the late Boyd Monroe and Ethel Cruise Matthews. Don was an active member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his wonderful grandchildren. Don was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially with any mechanical projects. He enjoyed drag racing, baseball, old cars, travelling, and napping in the sun. Don loved everyone he met and was loved by many. He spent over 40 years as a diesel mechanic. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Joyce Dalton and Faye Gardner. Surviving are his loving wife of 23 years, Sherry Matthews; three daughters, Valerie Woodard (Don) of Lewisville, Vilia "Jenny" Jenevieve McClearen (Mike) of Winston-Salem, and Terri Zappala-Morrow (James) of Philadelphia, PA; three sons, Todd Matthews (Sonia), of Winston-Salem, Miles Matthews of Winston-Salem, and Jacob Matthews-Zappala of Lewisville; six grandchildren, Jackson, Kaitlyn, Madelyn, Julianna, James, and Cooper; mother-in-law, Dorothy Wilson; two sisters, Brenda Hill of Fancy Gap, VA and Dawn McGrady of Mt. Airy, NC; also surviving are numerous extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 14, 2019 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Rev. Luper, Ferrell McKinney
November 28, 1934 - June 9, 2019 Jesus said, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved." (John 10:9, NIV). Ferrell McKinney Luper of Pfafftown passed through the gate Sunday, June 9, 2019, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and special caretaker Briana. For those of us who are the sheep of the Great Shepherd, when we die, we do not pass away, but "pass through" Christ, who is the Way, the Door, the Gate, into life eternal. Born November 28, 1934, Ferrell was the son of the late Elcer Ray and Maggie Mae McKinney Luper. He graduated from Lewisville High School and from the Apprentice School of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Mr. Luper retired from RJR Archer, and was a dedicated member of Elm Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carroll Jean Beroth. Mr. Luper is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Lee Binkley Luper, of the home; daughters, Sharon Lee Luper Collett of Winston-Salem and Lavonda Kay Luper Glass of Pfafftown; grandchildren, Wesley Ferrell Collett, Anna Lee Collett, Robert Ray Collett, Leah Joyce Glass, and Thomas William Glass IV; great-granddaughters, Nyah Lee Collett, Ruby Grace Medlin, and Jillian Ada Collett. He is also survived by his sister, Dorotha Rae Masencup and special niece, Dawn Masencup Davis and her husband Jim; nieces Nancy Bracken and Gail Gentry, nephew Roger Beroth; and many other beloved relatives and friends. The family was blessed with many special caregivers. Granddaughter Leah Glass was her Pawpaw and Grandma's angel, who lovingly helped them for several years. We also thank Briana, Evelyn, Larena, and Barbara for their kindness and care of Pawpaw and our family. He was born December 28, 1935 in Yadkin County to the late Charles Conrad Tucker and Annie Sue Gray Tucker. Mr. Tucker served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents. She was born on April 17, 1926 to Warner Dodson and Bertha Cox Dodson in Rockingham County. Ruby was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her bridge club for over 50 years. She was also an avid PGA fan, having been introduced to the sport by her late husband, a talented golfer. An expert gardener, Ruby could revive any plant or flower with her green thumb. Ruby will be remembered as a happy homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Porter, Sr.; and sisters, Inez Dodson, Ella Tsumas, and Louise Manuel. February 7, 1938 - June 7, 2019 Eugene Roseboro was born in Winston-Salem, NC on February 7, 1938 and departed this life on June 7, 2019. He was the son of the late Earl and Ruth Lincoln Roseboro. He was educated in the WSFC schools and is an alumnus of NCCU and a member of WSSU Alumni Association. Gene married and is survived by his college sweetheart, Viola. Also surviving are their four children: Darryl and wife Dana; Leisha and husband Timothy Patterson; Olander and wife Michelle and Kivet and wife Janette. Gene was most excited to welcome each of his twelve grandchildren into the family who are Christian, Makayla, Dara, Theodore, Timothy, Jr., Timia, Tisoko, Brandon, Christopher, Kendall, Jermiah, and Kaleo. Gene and Viola were blessed to become great-grandparents with the birth of Nasiima-Zyrai. Gene is also survived by four sisters: Mildred, Azalee, Bertha and Robbie; three brothers: Ardeal (Diane), Curtis and Samuel. Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Audrey, and one sister, Alice. Gene is survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives (genetically and those he enthusiastically adopted into the family) and friends. Gene, as he was affectionately called, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the American Legion Post 220, Olympic Lodge #795, Salvation Army Advisory Board and the NAACP. Gene lived his faith through service as was evidenced by his participation in organizations which often included leadership roles in the Forsyth County Deacon Union, the Deacons' and Trustee Ministries, Rowan Baptist Association and the Forsyth County Sunday School Union. Gene was also a member of the Church Cathedral Choir. Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Friendship Baptist Church. January 17, 1938 - June 10, 2019 Kernersville Mr. Charles Ray Fulton, 81, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Forsyth County, January 17, 1938 to the late J.V. and Annie Fulton. He retired from R.J.R Tobacco Co. after 30 years of service and farmed his whole life. Mr. Fulton graduated from Walkertown High School, Class of 1956, and was a lifelong member of Goodwill Baptist Church. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Fulton, and his son, Michael Fulton. Surviving are two sons, Donald Ray Fulton of Kissimmee, FL, and Rodney Fulton of Lexington and wife Donna; one daughter, Stephanie Fulton of Kernersville; and three grandchildren, Tristen, Abigail, both of Lexington, and Charleigh Fulton of Kernersville. He was blessed over the last 11 years with the companionship of Kathryn Cobbler, a very special lady to him and the family. A memorial service will be held 3:30 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Greg Mullis officiating.
