September 28, 1929 - June 14, 2019 Mrs. Mary Lou Williams Fishel, 89, of Clemmons, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019. Mary was born September 28, 1929 in Yadkin County to Earlie and Ruby Williams. She graduated from Gray High School in 1947 and married Hobart "Joe" Fishel on April 9, 1955. They were married for 25 years and he preceded her in death. Mary was a member of Enterprise Moravian Church, where she taught children and worked in the kitchen. She also served as church treasurer for 1 1/2 years and choir director on two different occasions. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's construction company until his death, and then for Foltz Concrete until her retirement at age 65. Mary is survived by her brother, Ernest Ray Williams; nephew, Ernest "Sonny" Williams, Jr.; and several great-nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Arkon Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. July 26, 1947 - June 18, 2019 Mr. Donald Wayne Wall, age 71, of Tobaccoville, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Wall was born on July 26, 1947 in Forsyth County to Vernon Wall Sr. and Rebecca Spainhour Wall. He was preceded in death by his father Vernon Wall Sr.; brother Vernon Wall Jr; and great-granddaughter Chloe. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Brenda, of the home, a son Wayne (Michelle) Wall, two daughters Krista (Mike) Treece and Janie (Frank) McMahon, and his mother Rebecca Spainhour Wall, all of Tobaccoville; eight grandchildren: Shay, Hannah, Heather, Steven, Brittney, Kayla, Miranda, and Christopher; fourteen great-grandchildren; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Wall will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2 pm at Huff Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Boonville. April 5, 1923 - June 18, 2019 Betsy Donevant Lindsay passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on June 18, 2019. She was born in Forsyth County on April 5, 1923 to George and Flora Donevant. She graduated from RJ Reynolds and then worked for Goody's Headache for several years. She retired from Wake Forest University as an administrative assistant in the Career Placement office. Betsy grew up in the Fries Memorial Moravian Church and Forest Hill Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and led the high school department. She was an avid reader and bird watcher and enjoyed writing and mailing cards. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Claude Kenneth Lindsay; son Ken Wayne of Lewisville; daughter Linda Lindsay Pernell (Arnold) of Kennesaw, GA; and grandchildren Daniel Pernell (Cami), Kristen P. Nichols (Brandon), and Jessica Jenkins (Josh); and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. March 25, 1947 - June 18, 2019 Mrs. Joyce Ann Morris Spencer, 72, of Clemmons, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 25, 1947 in Davidson Co. to Walter Banks and Elizabeth Covington Morris. Joyce graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1969 and worked for R. J. Reynolds for 12 years in the Sports Marketing Department and later worked for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. She dearly loved her family and friends and had a special place in her heart for her great-nephew and niece, Grayson and Harper Kaup. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Frank Spencer; a son, Dan Spencer and wife Cindy of Wilmington and a sister, Carol Hall and husband Walter of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday at Clemmons First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Harvey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Joyce and Frank. November 24, 1929 - June 14, 2019 Mrs. Elizabeth B. Gordon,89, aka "Lib," was born November 24, 1929 in Winston-Salem, NC, daughter of Wiley Alford Shore Jr. and Eunice Glenn. She departed this life on Friday, June 14, 2019. She was a graduate of Atkins High School and a retiree of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. Spiritually, she was a former member of Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church before changing her membership to Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the mother's board. In the community, she was a member of Sisters of James H. Young Memorial Chapter #592 OES PHA, King Solomon's Assembly #64 Order of Golden Circle PHA, and Sethos Court#105 Daughters, where she served faithfully. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George Ervin Gordon, stepfather, George Robert Mitchell and brother Baxter Baker, Jr. Survivors include her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marion (Hazel) Gordon of Winston-Salem, NC; devoted cousins and caregivers, Willie M. Downs and Beechie Charles Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, dear friends and church members. Vestal, Samuel "Sam" Pete
June 20, 1934 - June 18, 2019 Samuel "Sam" Pete Vestal, 84, passed away on June 18, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Sam was born on June 20, 1934 in Yadkin County, NC to the late Ed and Rosa Vestal, and was raised in Jonesville, NC. He was a very talented musician and, earlier in his life, he fully devoted his time to ministry, working with R.W. Teague Ministries. Sam attended Unity Church of Winston-Salem. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Sam enjoyed gardening and loved music. He especially loved spending time with his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Marie Brown, Maryanne Layell, Hillary Vestal, Tom Vestal and Chuck Vestal. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 33 years, Judith Smith Vestal of Winston-Salem, NC; his oldest son, Mark (Sherri) Vestal of Greensboro, NC and their two children, Ben (Kristdel) Vestal of Wilmington, NC and Tyler (Gerica) Vestal of Nashville, TN, and his youngest son, John (Pattie) Vestal of Wilmington, OH and their children, Chris (Kimberly) Vestal of Loveland, OH, Alexandra Vestal, Nick Vestal, Sam Vestal and Michael Vestal, all of Wilmington, OH; sisters-in-law, Frances Vestal, Bertha Vestal and Mariam Vestal; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Unity Church of Winston-Salem, with Rev. Elizabeth Forrest officiating. March 8, 1936 - June 19, 2019 Ernest Linville (Buddy) Frazier, Jr., 83, passed away Wednesday morning, June 19, 2019. Buddy was born March 8, 1936 to Ernest Linville Frazier and Beulah Saunders Frazier. He graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended N.C. State University. Buddy served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He was an installation supervisor for Western Electric/Lucent Technologies and retired in 1989. After retirement he owned and operated Bud Frazier Locksmith until mid-2018. Buddy was an avid reader and enjoyed genealogy, tracing the Frazier family back for generations. He was a life-long member of Home Moravian Church and played in the Moravian band at a young age. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; his sister, Joshlyn; and a nephew. Buddy is survived by his wife, Shirley; sister, Judy Carithers; brother, Jack Frazier and wife, Rolanda; eight nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. June 16, 1942 - June 18, 2019 Mrs. Peggy Whisenhunt Sparks, 77, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019. She was born in Forsyth County on June 16, 1942, to the late Thomas Wesley Whisenhunt and Mary Keaton Whisenhunt. Mrs. Sparks retired from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System, was chairperson for her neighborhood community watch, and loved spending time with her family. Preceding her in death are her parents and two sisters, Annie Mae Williams and Edna Gray Miller. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Larry K. Sparks; a daughter, Teresa Hackett (Eddie); four grandchildren: Grayson Hackett, Kimberly Boger (Jay), Cody Hackett (Allison), and Timothy Hackett (Deanna); seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Beck; and several nieces and nephews. January 27, 1924 - June 5, 2019 King - Betty Lou McGee Pulliam, 95, of King, NC, died at her home, Wednesday, June 5, 2019. She was born in Forsyth County to Chester and Inez McGee. She was retired from RJ Reynolds and was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in King. She was predeceased by her parents; son, Steven; brother, Tim and sister in law, Pat. She is survived by her children, Frankye Martin, Mark Pulliam (Mary Francis) and Mary Pulliam; nephews, Tom McGee (Joan); Marvin Tuttle (Kay) and niece, Nancy Smith (Rickie). She also leaves behind the loves of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Gregg, Jennie and Jack Pulliam; Britten, Jennifer and Stella Martin; Kent, Tricia, Kason and Delaney Gatewood; Nicholas and Gentry Gatewood; Meredith and Lauren Lewis; Zachary Pulliam; Cheston Pulliam; Laura Pulliam and Kinnor Chakma. She was a godly woman whose last prayers were for the lost to find the Lord and their salvation. She always thought of others before herself and a giving person, who even in death has donated her body to Wake Forest University School of Medicine. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in King, with reception and visitation with family to follow. Haddock, Kalee (Kay) Walker
September 28, 1923 - June 18, 2019 Kalee (Kay) Walker Haddock passed away peacefully on June 18, 2019 at Davis Retirement Community in Wilmington, NC. Mrs. Haddock was born in Elkin, NC on September 28, 1923 to Lonnie Franklin Walker and Disa Hicks Walker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haddock was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years and legendary Wake Forest University golf coach Jesse Haddock, as well as her daughter Catherine Sherill Simons, brother Frank Hicks Walker and sister Dorothy Mae Standley. She is survived by daughter Dorothy Kay Haddock Hill and husband James Earl Hill Jr., grandsons James Earl Hill III, Jesse Haddock Hill, Bradley James Simons, Sean Langdon Simons, Ryan Scott Simons, granddaughter Kalee Louise Hill and nine great-grandchildren. Kay Haddock was a devoted wife and mother who grew into a modern-day woman. A graduate of Flora Macdonald College in Red Springs, NC, Mrs. Haddock embarked on her career in the typing pool at McLean Trucking Company in Winston-Salem. From this point forward, Kay rose the ranks to becoming the executive secretary at McLean Trucking, Hennis Freight Lines and Spector-Red Ball Inc. to Mr. M.C. Benton Jr., former mayor of Winston-Salem, and trucking company executive. After her many years of service with the trucking industry, Mrs. Haddock retired and help create the Jesse I. Haddock Golf Camp with her husband and Wake Forest golf coach Jesse Haddock. Kay and Coach Haddock enjoyed many summers helping to train and entertain young golfers from all over the world at Wake Forest and their home in Bermuda Run, NC. One of Kay's greatest loves was the relationships she formed with Coach Haddock's golfers that came through the Wake Forest Golf Program. "Jesse's boys," as these golfers were affectionately known, always provided a wealth of love and support to both Kay and Coach Haddock throughout their lives. Later in life, Kay, Jesse and their dogs (Buffy, Clorox and Gus) enjoyed retirement at their home on Grandfather Mountain, Jupiter, FL, and their remaining years back home in Winston-Salem, NC. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 in the Chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, NC.
