Two Winston-Salem men have been charged with killing another man outside a bar on Liberty Street.

Danny Lamore Ford, 25, of the 4200 block of Whitfield Road, and Gregory Allen Thompson, 23, of the 600 block of Oak Summit Road, were both charged with murder, according to arrest warrants and a news release from the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The arrests were in connection to the death of Cequan Lenard Scales, 25, who was found on Feb. 10, in the parking lot of Absolute Ultra Bar and Lounge, 4218 North Liberty St.

Scales, of Amanda Place, had an apparent gunshot wound and he was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he later died, police said.

Police responded to the shooting at 2:39 a.m. Feb. 10.

Investigators said police were leaving after closing hours when an altercation occurred outside and shots were fired.

Winston-Salem police arrested Ford on Tuesday and took Thompson into custody on Thursday. Both were arrested without incident, police said.

This is the second time Scales has been shot. Scales was one of two victims of a 2015 drive-by shooting on Old Greensboro Road, the Winston-Salem Journal previously reported. Scales was shot in the shoulder, and another man was shot in the right leg.

Ford and Thompson are in the Forsyth County Jail with no bond allowed. Their next court date is March 7 in Forsyth District Court. Winston-Salem police did not release their booking photos because of investigative reasons, according to the news release.

Authorities are asking that anyone with information about this investigation contact the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700 or CrimeStoppers at 336-727-2800. Crime Stoppers may be contacted through “Crime Stoppers of Winston-Salem” on Facebook.
