Winston-Salem Police are investigating the shooting death of a man outside the Absolute Ultra Bar and Lounge on North Liberty Street early Sunday morning.

Responding to a 911 call at 2:39 a.m., police found the victim, 25-year-old Cequan Lenard Scales lying in the parking lot of the bar at 4218 N. Liberty St.

Scales, of Amanda Place, was found to have suffered an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he later died, police said.

Investigators said patrons of the Absolute Ultra Bar were leaving after closing hours when an altercation occurred outside and gunshots were fired. Scales was shot.

No information has been released on possible suspects in the case.

Scales was one of two victims wounded in a 2015 drive-by shooting on Old Greensboro Road, the Journal previously reported. Scales was shot in the shoulder and another man was shot in the right leg.

This is the second homicide to occur in Winston-Salem this year.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336) 773-7700 or CrimeStoppers at (336) 727-2800. CrimeStoppers may also be contacted via “Crime Stoppers of Winston-Salem” on Facebook.
