MARS HILL — Two people have been charged with child abuse after deputies found an infant in a cage.
According to a Madison County Sheriff's Office Facebook post, deputies and Department of Social Services responded to a child neglect complaint at a residence. While searching the residence, the infant was found in the cage in the upstairs portion of the home.
Deputies took the infant from the cage, and medical treatment was sought for the child. Detectives said the infant was being left in the cage for 23 hours or more daily and only given minimal amounts food.
Haley Trantham and Vincent Lee II were arrested and both charged with two counts of child abuse. Haley was also charged with possession of marijuana. Both are currently in the Madison County jail.
