The Kernersville Police Department is looking for a man who ran away after leading police on a Tuesday morning car chase that ended in a crash.

Officers went to an area near Salisbury Street and Springbrook Drive at about 5 a.m. after a person called 911 to report a suspicious looking vehicle, police said in a news release.

Officers saw a black Hummer H2 leaving the area and tried to pull it over, police said. The driver of the Hummer didn’t stop, and police gave chase.

The driver of the Hummer tried to exit onto Interstate 40, but lost control and crashed, police said.

The driver of the Hummer got out of the car and ran, police said. Kernersville police sent multiple officers to the area and police K9s tried to track him, but police couldn’t find him.

Police said the man was wearing dark clothing and was last seen near Union Cross Road, running toward the Sheetz gas station.

Police said Tuesday morning they would not release any more information about the suspect or the incident.
