HIGH POINT — One man was killed and another man was injured in a shooting late Thursday night.
Officers responded about 11:40 p.m. to the area of Habersham Road and Kroll Lane after receiving a call that someone had been shot, police said in a news release. When officers arrived they found a 23-year-old High Point man in the 700 block of Habersham Road suffering from gunshot wounds to the buttocks and thigh.
While continuing to search the area, officers found 25-year-old Ja’Kirius H. Staton, also of High Point, with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was found in the driver's seat of a silver sedan in the 600 block of Habersham Road.
Officers began life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived to take Staton to High Point Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they found a third person, a 19-year-old man they said was connected to what happened, about 1:30 a.m. hiding behind a shed in a nearby backyard. He had minor scrapes, police said.
