Winston-Salem police with crime tape

Police are still searching for information in the death of a Winston-Salem woman.

Ollie Deneen Richardson, 54, of 3836 Sawyer St., was found dead in a vacant lot in the 400 block of Liberia Street about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Richardson was shot multiple times, said Lt. Gregory Dorn, though he declined to say where, pending autopsy results.

Police are uncertain why Richardson was in the vacant lot, he said. Dorn said they are still working to determine that. The area is about six miles from her house.

Although someone called police about a woman — later identified as Richardson — lying on the ground unresponsive on Liberia Street about 9:30 a.m., Dorn said it's believed she was shot earlier in the morning, between 4 and 7 a.m.

Richardson still had personal items on her when she was found by police, but it's unclear if anything was taken from her, Dorn said. Investigators are still trying to determine a motive and suspects in the slaying.
