Newspaper routes are delivered by independent contractors, not employees of the News & Record or the Winston-Salem Journal. Must have reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance and a valid driver’s license. Independent contractors are responsible for soliciting and compensating their own substitutions on routes as needed. Routes are contracted for completed delivery by 6am Monday through Saturday and 7am on Sunday, including inclement weather, 365 days per year. A breach of contract may result in liquidated damages.

Newspaper route profitability ranges from $500 to $2000 per route, paid out on a pre-determined carrier billing cycle (approximately 2x per month).

• Route profitability is negatively impacted by service errors, subscriber cancellations or subscribers downgrades in service type.
• Route profitability is positively impacted by service incentives, subscriber tips, new subscriber starts and subscriber upgrades.
• As reference, the News & Record and the Winston-Salem Journal actively solicit and secure nearly 40,000 subscribers per year for our contractors.
• As reference, the News & Record and the Winston-Salem Journal actively secure $8,000-$10,000 in tips, per newspaper, for contractors. That’s nearly $120,000 for our carrier force in each market.
