Walt Emery and the Triad Vietnam Veterans Association have for years put together the annual Memorial Day commemoration at Joel Coliseum.

Monday’s ceremony was their last, though. The group is disbanding.

About 50 people gathered at Joel Coliseum to pay tribute to those from the area who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

They listened as the names of the nearly 500 troops were read aloud and many lingered to walk among the pillars outside the coliseum, each bearing the name of a man or woman who died in war.
