Chewy Inc., an online pet supply retailer, said Wednesday it will open a $55 million fulfillment center in Salisbury that will have 1,200 employees at full production.
Founded in 2011, Chewy is a primary competitor to Amazon when it comes to online pet supply sales.
Chewy is dually headquartered in Boston and Dania Beach, Fla. It has customer service centers in Dallas and Hollywood, Fla. and eight fulfillment centers around the country.
Pete Krilles, vice President of corporate real estate and facilities for Chewy, said that in addition to job creation, "our new fulfillment center will enhance our delivery network across the southeastern United States, allowing us to better service Chewy customers with even faster delivery times."
The company has been made eligible for up to $166,500 in performance-based incentives from the One North Carolina Fund for the creation of 150 jobs, facilitating Chewy’s establishment of the Salisbury center. The company also is qualified for matching local incentives.
