Now is probably not the best of times to mention how difficult Tim Duncan could make my job as Wake beat reporter of the Winston-Salem Journal and how he -- given his infamous insistence on keeping, whenever possible, his thoughts and opinions to himself -- has continued to make life harder on those brothers and sisters of the fourth estate assigned to cover his star-studded NBA career.

He is, after all, enjoying a shimmering Indian Summer to a Hall of Fame career, one that has him poised -- even after Tuesday night's gut-wrenching late collapse in Game Six -- one victory away from his fifth NBA title. And he is probably the best story I ever had the pleasure to write, the poker-faced curiosity from some exotic Caribbean locale who showed up at Wake without a jacket and ended up becoming a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer the day he becomes eligible.
