The U.S. delegation at the Sochi Olympics has a few North Carolina connections, the most notable being speedskater Heather Richardson.

Richardson, a High Point native and 2007 graduate of High Point Central High School, is a medal favorite in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,500-meter races. She is ranked No. 2 in the World Cup standings in the 500 and first in the 1,000, and she’s coming on strong in the 1,500. Her first race will be the 500 meters Tuesday.
