CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina went from torrid to tepid in a matter of minutes on Saturday, but held on in a tough second half to defeat Maryland and climb to level ground in the ACC.

The Tar Heels won 62-52 at the Smith Center by fighting through inconsistency in front of 20,865. Reggie Bullock helped UNC surge to a 42-20 lead at halftime, but 23.5 percent shooting from the field in the second half allowed Maryland to cut into the advantage.
