Fifteen years after Matthew Shepard, a young gay man, was beaten and left to die near Laramie, Wyo., Wake Forest University Theatre is opening its season with a play about the incident. Shepard’s death brought national and international attention to hate crimes and resulted in President Obama signing the Matthew Shepard Act in 2009.
"The Laramie Project” opens Friday night on the Mainstage Theatre, Scales Fine Arts Center. Brook Davis, an associate professor of theater, is directing the play.
