It’s good that Gov. Bev Perdue has found $20 million in projected spare funds to shift to the state’s pre-K programs.
The funds, shifted from other areas within the Department of Health and Human Services, should accommodate another 6,300 4-year-olds in our pre-K academic enrichment program, The Assoicated Press reported. But surely there was an easier way for the state to accomplish this. The legislature should never have removed the funds in the first place — and, then, should not have fought the court’s order to restore it.
