Editorial: Twelve years on, we're still on guard

None of us saw anything on that beautiful September morning 12 years ago that indicated the world was about to change dramatically. The sun shone beautifully in a blue sky.

Then 19 hijackers crashed four jets into history, killing almost 3,000 innocent victims. The crash sites at the World Trade Center in New York, at the Pentagon and in a lonely Pennsylvania field would become hallowed ground. A worldwide war on terror would begin without ominous war clouds. President George W. Bush would send American forces into Afghanistan, and, later, into Iraq.
