As he ran for office, Gov. Pat McCrory supported compensation for the victims of the state sterilization program. Now that he is in, we look forward to him quickly bringing that compensation to fruition.
In an Aug. 10 email, McCrory spokesman Ricky Diaz told our editorial board that “Pat McCrory believes that the state should compensate eugenics victims. He disagreed with the legislature’s decision not to include funding in this year’s budget and hopes that it will be addressed in the future to bring closure to the victims and their families.”
