GARCIA WINSTON-SALEM Sarah Suzanne Fergusson Garcia Jan. 1, 1978 - Nov. 12, 2013 Sarah Suzanne Fergusson Garcia, 35, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully at home with her family and dear friends by her side on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Sarah was born January 1, 1978, in Asheville, NC, along with her twin brother, Donnie to Nancy Fergusson and Harry Fergusson. She graduated from North Buncombe High School in 1996 and obtained a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lived and worked in Winston-Salem, NC, with her husband Esteban and welcomed their son Milo into the world in 2010. Sarah was an adoring wife, devoted mother, loving daughter, dedicated friend, and beloved teacher at West Forsyth High School. She had a vibrant smile and a warm spirit, appreciating the miracles of each day and showering others with her enduring joy. Throughout her life, Sarah cultivated countless friends, investing in their lives, showing others that she valued and loved them. Many of these friends were made through Salem Presbyterian Church, where Sarah was actively involved in many ways including through her cherished small group family. Sarah also shared her charm and wit with her West Forsyth family where she was valued not only as a highly regarded Teacher of the Year, but also as a cornerstone of the English Department and a standard setter for the school's incoming teachers. Sarah's life-long passion for dance was honored recently through an especially choreographed piece entitled "A Solitary Journey . . . with Friends." In every period of her life, be it her years in the Asheville area, Chapel Hill, Charlotte or Winston-Salem, Sarah always easily endeared herself to others. Sarah was an extraordinarily strong woman with a steadfast faith throughout her life. In the face of a tremendous challenge, she responded with peace, joy, and a tenacious optimism that affected everyone she came across. She lived a life that was marked by love and its transforming power. She is survived by her husband of seven years, Esteban Garcia, and three year old son, Milo Esteban; her mother, Nancy Fergusson; father, Harry Fergusson; stepmother Linda Burton; brothers Donnie Fergusson (Kibby) of Mililani, HI, and David Tallevast of Charleston, SC; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, students, teachers, and friends around the world. A Memorial Service to celebrate Sarah's life, led by her pastor, Ben Milner, will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 1046 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow where family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers for those desiring to send a memorial in Sarah's memory, the family asks that a gift be made to the Milo Esteban Garcia Educational Benefit Account - please make checks payable to Smart529 and mail to Brewer & Associates, 3719 W Market St, Greensboro, NC 27403.
