Bill authorizing spending to cover Medicaid shortfall heads to McCrory

Lawmakers have given Gov. Pat McCrory's administration power to spend up to $450 million to address a growing Medicaid shortfall this fiscal year and pay to clean up a previous accounting decision made to narrow an old budget gap.

The House agreed unanimously Wednesday to the Senate version of the bill authorizing the spending from unexpended state funds and a projected tax surplus. The bill now heads to McCrory's desk to be signed into law.
