Tax overhaul gains bipartisan support

A former leader of the Senate’s tax-policy committee has offered an overhaul of the tax system that’s winning some friends on both sides of the aisle.

Democratic Sen. Dan Clodfelter of Charlotte filed a bill Thursday that would reduce personal and corporate income tax rates and the state sales tax rate. The proposal also eliminates many credits and exemptions and makes the sales tax applicable to services like repairs, entertainment and landscaping.
