The proposed pink license is gone but questions remain about the extent to which state transportation officials will set apart other noncitizens, including permanent residents and visa holders, when they start issuing “next generation” licenses in December.

The next-generation license will be issued to all eligible drivers, including U.S. citizens. Drivers will be able to get one when they renew their license or can ask for one when they come out. On Friday, DMV spokeswoman Margaret Howell said the final design for those licenses is not known yet.
