OLD SALEM: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday. To mark the country’s first documented Independence Day celebration, Old Salem is celebrating with a full day of fun including patriotic music, games, demos, and other hands-on activities. An Independence Jazz concert will be held at St. Philips Heritage Center at 1 and 2:45 p.m. and a re-enactment of the original July 4th celebration in 1783 will at 4:15 p.m. in Salem Square. WINSTON-SALEM RECREATION AND PARKS DEPARTMENT: All Winston-Salem city pools will be open regular summer hours on Friday. Pool admission will be $1 for children and adults on Friday and will remain in effect for the rest of the summer. City golf courses and Salem Lake will also be open regular hours on Friday.
