The interior of the landmark Reeves Theater in downtown Elkin has been gutted, with crews taking down the balcony, ripping up moldy seats and getting rid of asbestos.

The roof's exposed wooden beams can been seen rising more than 60 feet. Massive steel girders that once supported the area where the upstairs office and balcony used to be are now part of the exposed interior skeleton. The concrete floor is covered in carpet remnants and slopes down to a stage built by volunteers.
