Winston-Salem police chief cleared in shooting

The Forsyth County District Attorney’s office has determined that Acting Police Chief Barry Rountree’s use of lethal force was justified in Wednesday’s shooting in an incident on Jackson Avenue in which a woman and her dog were wounded.

The State Bureau of Investigation determined that Rountree “acted to protect himself and to protect the lives of others,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement Friday.
