High Rock Lake drawdown affects fall boating

Charles Branch of Clemmons usually enjoys spending October weekends on High Rock Lake in his pontoon boat or on his jet skis, but this year he'll be pulling his boats out of the water earlier than he'd like.

On Sept. 10, Alcoa Power Generating Inc. informed those who have permits for piers on the lake that a planned drawdown will begin soon, with the lake being gradually lowered over the next four weeks until it is 7 to 10 feet below full.
