Wilkes County’s 59 methamphetamine-lab busts in 2012 reflected more than twice the next biggest county tab – Wayne County with 27, according to statistics released Tuesday by Attorney General Roy Cooper.

In Surry County, the 300 percent increase in meth lab busts from four in 2011 to 16 last year shows that deputies are making strong inroads in stopping illegal meth production, said Surry Sheriff Graham Atkinson.
