The Department of Veterans Affairs' office in Winston-Salem has too much paperwork — so much so that the building's sixth floor was in danger of collapsing under its weight, according to a recent report from the VA's inspector general.

Officials with the inspector general estimated that about 37,000 claims folders were piled on top of file cabinets, raising concerns that the floor could collapse under the weight. Some files were stacked in boxes lining the wall, the report said. The report was released Aug. 9.
