A Forsyth County jury spent only 90 minutes Monday before finding Scott Robert Speakman guilty of strangling his landlady to death about seven years ago and then setting fire to her car with her body in the front seat.

Before he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, Speakman, 33, denied killing Loyola Strader, 63, on Nov. 16, 2006. He had taken the stand Friday, testifying that he had found Strader dead in her Konnoak View Drive home and had set the car on fire in a panic over police blaming him for her death.
