N.C. DOT paying 30-40 percent over appraised value for project land

A review of the settled claims so far over the state’s land purchases for the Interstate 77/Interstate 40 project show the N.C. Department of Transportation agreed to pay many of the property owners 30 to 40 percent more than the appraised value of their land.

After completing an exhaustive appraisal of the land required for the Iproject, the N.C. DOT began buying up land more than three years ago.
