A citation against Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center alleging that the center violated the Animal Welfare Act is at a standstill as Wake Forest appeals the decision.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture cited the medical center in August after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals filed a complaint over the escape of a female monkey from the medical center’s primate center last summer. PETA is criticizing the awarding of two grants since then to do more research that the group says involves cruel treatment of monkeys.
