Most people following the hydraulic fracturing — or fracking — debate in North Carolina are familiar with the extensive shale basin known as the Durham-Sanford Sub-basin, which touches several counties in the central and eastern part of the state.

They may even know about the Dan River Basin in Stokes and Rockingham counties.
