Homeowners in Winston-Salem and Greensboro would face an average insurance rate hike of 18.2 percent on Aug. 1 if a request by the N.C. Rate Bureau is approved by state officials.

Forsyth and Guilford county homeowners would be subject to a 13.8 percent increase, while most counties in the Triad and Northwest North Carolina would face an increase ranging from 21.1 percent to 29.8 percent. Yadkin County was spared for the most part, with the bureau asking for a 2.9 percent increase.
