GREENSBORO — A filmmaker was indicted in U.S. District Court this week on charges of trying to extort the Winston-Salem-based R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.

Joseph Patrick Kelly is accused of threatening to release some footage he shot for Reynolds of a mock trial, unless the company donated $15,000 to a Kickstarter campaign for a horror film he was producing.
