Roy Cooper, the state’s attorney general, has filed an appeal with the N.C. Utilities Commission that argues Aqua North Carolina Inc. should not be allowed to raise customers’ rates without going before public hearings.

Aqua is the state’s largest private water and wastewater utility, providing services to 250,000 customers in 52 counties, including 175 residential subdivisions, private country clubs and estates in the Triad and Northwest N.C. The company serves 23 developments or estates in Forsyth County.
