Tobacco company bankruptcy settlement approved

The bankruptcy trustee for three defunct Mocksville tobacco companies said in a legal filing Tuesday that a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge has approved a settlement with a federal agency to pay $4.41 million toward a federal excise tax dispute.

A 15-year run of making discount cigarettes ended July 23 for Renegade Holdings Inc., Renegade Tobacco Co. and Alternative Brands Inc. The company had 83 employees when production ended.
